Molecular Signatures of Natural Killer Cells in CMV-Associated Anterior Uveitis, A New Type of CMV-Induced Disease in Immunocompetent Individuals

چکیده

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) causes clinical issues primarily in immune-suppressed conditions. CMV-associated anterior uveitis (CMV-AU) is a notable new disease entity manifesting recurrent ocular inflammation immunocompetent individuals. As patient demographics indicated contributions from genetic background and immunosenescence as possible underlying pathological mechanisms, we analyzed the immunogenetics of cohort conjunction with cell phenotypes to identify molecular signatures CMV-AU. Among immune types, natural killer (NK) cells are main responders against CMV. Therefore, first characterized variants polymorphic genes that encode differences CMV-related human NK responses (Killer Immunoglobulin-like Receptors (KIR) HLA class I) 122 CMV-AU patients. The cases were then stratified according their features for markers (CD57, KLRG1, NKG2C) by flow cytometry. KIR3DL1 I combinations encoding strong receptor–ligand interactions present at substantially higher frequencies In these cases, profiling revealed expansion subset co-expressing CD57 together CMV-recognizing NKG2C receptor. findings imply mechanism pathogenesis likely involves CMV-responding CD57/KLRG1/NKG2C develop on KIR3DL1/HLA-B allotypes interactions.

Gastrointestinal CMV in an elderly, immunocompetent patient.

An 83-year-old male with a history of diabetes but with an otherwise intact immune system presented with melena. Upper endoscopy showed gastric and duodenal ulcers. Colonoscopy showed colonic ulcers. Biopsies revealed cytomegalovirus (CMV). Therapy with an antiviral such as ganciclovir should be considered even in an immunocompetent patient if male and over the age of 55, or if they have chroni...

Dynamics of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific T cells in HIV-1-infected individuals progressing to AIDS with CMV end-organ disease.

BACKGROUND Since cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection can cause serious clinical complications in immunocompromised individuals, we assessed cellular immune requirements for protection against CMV end-organ disease (CMV-EOD) in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. METHODS Longitudinal samples from HIV-1-infected patients in the Amsterdam cohort were analyzed. Dynamics of CMV-spec...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to report two interesting cases of cytomegalovirus (CMV) anterior uveitis following topical prostaglandin analogue administration for glaucoma. Two retrospective case studies are presented. FINDINGS A 40-year-old immunocompetent lady with a history of Fuchs heterochromic iridocyclitis with secondary glaucoma in the right eye since 2005 was diagnosed to have...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific CD8+ T cells in individuals with HIV infection: correlation with protection from CMV disease.

CD8+ cytotoxic T cells play a key role in immunological protection from clinical cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease. Numbers of CMV-specific CD8+ T cells are increased in untreated and antiretroviral-treated HIV patients compared with healthy controls. Accumulation of CMV-specific CD8+ T cells during HIV infection may reflect persistent reactivation of CMV owing to suboptimal immune control and/or o...
